DUSHANBE, February 20, Asia-Plus — Tajik central bank head Murodali Alimardonov has demanded stricter control of activity of foreign currency exchange offices in the country, according to the National bank of Tajikistan (NBT).
The source at a NBT said that Alimardonov presided over a meeting with participation of heads of commercial banks and non-bank financial organizations at the end of last week. During the meeting it was noted that at present 953 currency exchange offices operate in the country. The major part of them belongs to physical entities while the others were opened by the non-bank financial organizations.
The central bank head noted that the majority part of the currency exchange offices are situated in Dushanbe and other large cities of the country while remote districts, especially mountain areas, are experiencing shortage of such offices. Alimardonov proposed to thoroughly study the possibility of opening of the currency exchange offices in remote settlements.
According to OryonBonk, it has 139 currency exchange offices across the republic. At the end of last year, OryonBonk established its branch in the northern district of Mastchoh and the currency exchange office will be opened at the Mastchoh branch in the near future.
