DUSHANBE, May 23, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday May 22, visiting Italian delegation led by the First Deputy Foreign Minister, Gianni Vernetti, visited the Drug Control Agency (DCA) in Dushanbe.
According to the DCA head office in Dushanbe, in the course of the talks Tajik drug control chief, Lieutenant-General Rustam Nazarov, and Italian official discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Italy in fighting drug trafficking and money laundering.
Tajik drug control kingpin briefed Italian delegation on the present drug situation in the region and efforts taken by the Tajik government to prevent drug trafficking.
For his part, the First Deputy Italian Foreign Minister, Sen. Gianni Vernetti, noted that his country focuses great attention on the fight against drug trafficking in the region, especially in Afghanistan, where Italian liaison officers are currently operating at Afghanistan’s border with Iran.
The deputy minister also appreciated Tajik law enforcement agencies’ efficient activities in the field of fighting drug trafficking.
Press service of Tajik counternarcotics agency quoted Mr. Vernetti as saying that the Government of Italy intends to support policy conducted by the Government of Tajikistan in fighting drug trafficking and is ready to provide financial support to DCA as well organize trainings for officers from Tajik law enforcement.
