Doctors confirm poison in Kyrgyz premier’s bloodstream

DUSHANBE, May 30, Asia-Plus – Kyrgyz physicians have confirmed an unidentified poison in the bloodstream of Prime Minister Almazbek Atambayev, a source at the governmental press service told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The source said they have a copy of the medical report issued by the Kyrgyz presidential medical center.

Atambayev had a medical checkup on May 14. “His possible diagnosis is an acute toxic hepatitis of an unknown origin,” the report runs. “The premier’s detoxification has been on since May 11.”

The premier said at the parliament on May 22 that he drank a glass of water in his office on May 11 and stayed unconscious for two days. He said he would not step down despite the poisoning attempt. “They won’t frighten me with poisoning and assaults,” he said.

Atambayev, a former opposition member, was put in charge of the Kyrgyz government about two months ago.
