DUSAHNBE, September 14, Asia-Plus — The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) intends to resume a case against the airline TajikAir for excessively high prices.
The First Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister, Amonullo Ashour, noted that TajikAir’s tariff policy is absolutely uncontrollable and we have to find out reasons for such high prices for individual air fares.
“The national air carrier has violated antimonopoly legislation, and I think that such facility of statewide importance should not be its own master and counter to the country’s legislation,” the deputy minister said.
It is to be noted that it is an old dispute between TajikAir and the country’s antimonopoly commission. The antimonopoly commission opened the case against the national air carrier in December 2005 already. The commission took the step after TajikAir ignored a November 2005 ruling by the commission giving it until December 1, 2005 to lower excessively high air fares. According to the antimonopoly commission, despite the decision, the air carrier was continuing to ignore its ruling, and the case went to the Economic Court.
