KULOB, July 11, 2008, Asia-Plus — The Vose district is the first in Khatlon’s Kulob region to complete the grain-harvesting campaign, having gathered 8,166 tons of grains from 5,010 hectares by July 11, according to the Vose agriculture department.
Farmers have reported average harvests of 1.63 tons per hectare, the source at the Vose agriculture department said.
In the meantime, speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Abdullo Rajabov, a chief specialist with the Kulob regional agriculture directorate, said that the pace of the grain-harvesting campaign in the region is satisfactory.
“Taking into account that the Baljuvon and Muminobod districts that have planted wheat on an area of nearly 13,000 hectares have not yet launched the grain-harvesting campaign, and 35,000 tons of wheat have been yielded in the region to this date, one may say that the pace of the harvesting campaign is satisfactory,” the chief specialist said, adding that dry spring has affected grain productivities in the region.
Grain growers in the Kulob region have planted cereals on the area of 80,610 hectares this year and intend to yield not less than 141,000 tons wheat.
