Tajik president, Afghan minister discuss cooperation between law enforcement agencies of the two countries

DUSHANBE, July 11, 2008, Asia-Plus — Cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan and Afghanistan was a focus of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with the Afghan Minister of Interiors Zarar Ahmad Moqbil here on July 10.  

Speaking to reporters after the meeting with President Rahmon, the Afghan minister said that in the course of the talks they had paid a special attention to the fight against terrorism, extremism, transnational crime and rug trafficking.

Moqbil noted that Afghanistan, which is currently at the stage of post-war reconstruction of economy, has been conducting relentless fight against poppy cultivation and drug productions. 

“In 2007, 150 tons of drugs were seized in Afghanistan, while over the first six months of this year alone, 250 tons of drugs have been seized in the country,” the minister said.  

“We named mutual exchange of information between related structures an important factor that contributes to strengthening of security and stability in the region,” said Moqbil, “President Rahmon charged relevant bodies to expand cooperation with us.”
