ICAF delegation to help Tajikistan enhance agrarian sector

DUSHANBE, July 14, 2008, Asia-Plus  — A delegation of the India-Central Asian Foundation (ICAF) led by its president Shri K. Santhanam is arriving in Dushanbe on July 16 for a working visit.  

According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the purpose of the visit is for the ICAF delegation, which will consist of the company’s vice-president, members of the government and two distinguished scientists, is to discuss with Tajik officials ways of expansion of cooperation in the filed of agriculture.  

During their stay in Tajikistan, the delegation members are scheduled to study the state of agrarian sector in southern, southeast and southwest regions of the country.  The will also discuss issues related to establishment of the ICAF representative office in Dushanbe.  

Narzullo Dadaboyev, a spokesman for a MoA, noted that if the sides reach an agreement, the ICAF will promote enhancement of Tajikistan’s agrarian, including increase in grain yields, establishment of highly productive stock-rising and poultry farms as well as specialized centers for growing flowers. 

They also intend to arrange production and export of fruit and milk products as well as package production in Tajikistan, the spokesman said.   

They also intend to set up agricultural training centers to improve knowledge of Tajik youth for further study at Indian universities, Dadaboyev said.   

According to him, the ICAF also intends to promote establishment and expansion of cooperation between Tajik and Indian businesspeople, small and medium-sized enterprises.  

The India – Central Asian Foundation (ICAF), New Delhi, India was established on March 1, 2005. ICAF is governed by a Governing Body (GB) whose members are distinguished personalities from various walks of life. 

The India Central Asia Foundation has been set up in Delhi as a Track-II non-profit enterprise whose objectives would include the following: to establish and promote bilateral interactions in social, economic, cultural, political, strategic and related areas to mutual benefit; to facilitate and promote exchange of scholars and other professionals; to build and foster appropriate linkages with institutions in  Central Asia; to create a contemporary data base of relevance to scholars and business persons; to create and maintain a data base of various publications in Central Asian countries and provide document translations as part of information dissemination services; and, to generate funds from membership fees, sponsored research, publications etc for activities of the Foundation.
