DUSHANBE, July 16, 2008, Asia-Plus — Border guard has been killed in a skirmish at the Tajik-Afghan border in the Khatlon province.
According to the main border directorate within the State Committee for National Security, the incident took place near the border village Shoun in Khatlon’s Shuroobod district in the evening of July 15.
The border guards spotted and tried to detain a group of Afghan drug traffickers, the source at the border service said. The trespassers fired upon the border guards and as a result of the skirmish one Tajik border guard was killed.
