DUSHANBE, July 16, Asia-Plus — In January-June 2008, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electric energy and natural gas, has amounted to $2.3257 billion, which is 124.3 percent of the January-June 2007 level, according to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics.
The overall trade balance remained negative and has amounted to $745.9 million.
Exports of goods in January-June 2008 have amounted to $789.9 million, which is $53.5 million more than in the same period of last year. Imports of goods into Tajikistan over the same six-month period have amounted to $1.5358 billion, which is $400.4 million more than in January-May 2007.
Compared to May, Tajikistan’s exports in June increased by 24.5 percent and the country’s imports in June decreased by 19.7 percent.
Over the report period, Tajikistan has had trade relations with 79 countries, including 11 CIS states.
Over the same six-month period, the CIS states have accounted for some 43.3 percent (equivalent to some $1.59 billion) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries have accounted for 56.7 percent ($1.3197 billion) of the country’s external trade turnover.
