DUSHANBE, July 31, 2008, Asia-Plus — China has offered the project for rehabilitation of the Kulma-Qarasou-Kyrgyzstan road.
This issue was discussed at a meeting of the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Sharif Said, with the head of the department for foreign trade and economic cooperation of chain’s Xinjiang-Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR), He Imin (phonetically spelled), in Dushanbe on July 30.
The Chinese official suggested that that issue should be raised at the upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Dushanbe and noted that Chinese banks could fund the project, the CCI source said. According to him, Said seconded the proposal, noting that the issue could also be considered at a session of the SCO Business Council.
The source added that in the course of the talks, the two had also discussed the possibility of development of informational-electronic cooperation that could be established through Internet and e-mail. “Mutual operational exchange of business information will promote expansion of cooperation between Tajik and XUAR entrepreneurs,” Mr. He noted.
The sides also discussed activities of Chinese companies and enterprises operating in Tajikistan. During the meeting, it was noted that Tajikistan and China are currently implementing more than 50 joint projects in different sectors of economy and some 40 Tajik-Chinese joint ventures have been established in Tajikistan.
The CCI head proposed to conduct the next Kashgar exhibition in Khatlon’s Danghara district in August 2009.
