Iranian president confirms his participation at SCO summit in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, August 2, Asia-Plus  — State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran were the focus of talks of Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran on July 31, according to the Tajik MFA.  

In the course of the talks, the two also discussed issues related to the present situation in the region and regional security providing problems as well as interaction of Tajikistan and Iran within international organizations.  

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad acknowledged growing ties between Iran and Tajikistan.  He said that executive bodies of both nations have done their best to expand cooperation.  Iranian president added that bilateral ties between Iran and Tajikistan are running in an appropriate trend, expressing hope that administrative and executive bodies of both nations make use of the utmost potential of each other.  Ahmadinejad expressed gratitude to Tajik leadership for support and confirmed his participation at a meeting of heads of state of member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) due in Dushanbe on August 28 as observer as well as at a tripartite meeting of the presidents of Tajikistan, Iran and Afghanistan that will take place in Dushanbe after the SCO summit.  

Hamrokhon Zarifi, for his part, informed Iranian president of measures taken by the Tajik leadership to expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation as well as prospects of relations in a trilateral format, including Afghanistan, the Tajik MFA said.
