Summer camps in northern Tajikistan curtail their functioning due to high prices of camp vouchers

Date:

KHUJAND, August 4, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Many summer camps in the northern Sughd province have curtailed their functioning due to high prices of camp vouchers.

Saidyusuf Afzalov, an official with the Sughd Trade Unions’ Federation, told Asia-Plus that at present only three out-of-town summer camps are functioning in the Isfara district – Otashak, Uqobak and Oftobak.  These camps are subordinate to local industrial enterprises.

“According to the latest data, 5,806 schoolchildren have had rest in the out-of-town summer camps in the province this year; while more than 7,000 schoolchildren were supposed to have rest in the camps this summer,”, said Afzalov, “Reduction in the number of holidaymakers has resulted from high prices of camp vouchers.”

In all, there are 26 out-of-town camps for children in northern Tajikistan.
