Tajikistan’s external trade turnover for Jan-Jul 08 exceeds $2.7 billion

DUSHANBE, August 19, 2008, Asia-Plus  — In January-July 2008, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electric energy and natural gas, has amounted to $2.7638 billion, which is 124.7 percent of the January-July 2007 level, according to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics.    

The overall trade balance remained negative and has amounted to $896.4 million. 

Exports of goods in January-July 2008 have amounted to $933.7 million, which is $64 million more than in the same period of last year.  Imports of goods into Tajikistan over the same seven-month period have amounted to $1.8301 billion, which is $484.2 million more than in January-July 2007.  

Compared to June, Tajikistan’s exports in July decreased by 18.9 percent and the country’s imports in July increased by 22.6percent.    

Over the report period, Tajikistan has had trade relations with 80 countries, including 11 CIS states. 

Over the same seven-month period, the CIS states have accounted for some 42.9 percent (some $1.1862 billion) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries have accounted for 57.1 percent ($1.5776 billion) of the country’s external trade turnover.
