KHOROG, August 28, 2008, Asia-Plus — Gorno Badakhshan currently has 550 teaching vacancies, the GBAO governor Qodir Qosim remarked at a conference of education workers o the region in Khorog on August 27.    

Schools in the region are currently experiencing an acute shortage of teachers of the Russian and English languages, information technologies, mathematics and chemistry. 

The governor noted that the present level of knowledge of school students also leaves much to be desired.  

To tackle problems facing the education sector and promote work on reforming this sector the governor proposed to create alternative general educational facilities.
