Rahmon meets his Iranian, Kazakh and Russian counterparts to discuss cooperation issues

DUSHANBE, August 28, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On Wednesday August 27, President Emomali Rahmon met separately with his Iranian, Kazakh and Russian counterparts, presidential press service said.    

Rahmon’s talks with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad focused on bilateral economic cooperation and a progress of implementation of a number of joint projects in Tajikistan.  The two, in particular, discussed construction of the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant, the Chormaghzak tunnel and the power grids.  Rahmon and Ahmadinejad also considered cultural cooperation between the two countries.  

A broad range of Tajik-Kazakh cooperation, including expansion of cooperation between entrepreneurs of the two countries was discussed at a meeting of Emomali Rahmon with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.     

Yesterday afternoon, President Rahmon also held talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the Dushanbe airport.  The two discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation as well as integration within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other international and regional organizations.  

We will recall that on Friday, Dmitry Medvedev will have talks with President Emomali Rahmon as part of his official visit to Tajikistan.
