KULOB, August 28, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The Kulob regional prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings to investigate into a skirmish, involving border and police officers, in Khatlon’s Shuroobod district.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the deputy Khatlon prosecutor in charge of the Kulob region, Alfattoh Roziqov, said that the skirmish, involving servicemen of border unit # 2931 and officer from the Khatlon police directorate, took place in the village of Yol on August 19.  No injured was reported, according to him.

“It is still difficult to determine exactly who was an instigator of the skirmish, who was firing,” said the deputy prosecutor, “Therefore, the criminal proceedings have been instituted under the provisions of Article 237, Part 3 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – hooliganism with use of firearms.”

Taking into account the complication of clarification of the circumstances, the Prosecutor-General’s Office has charged the regional prosecutor’s office but not the military prosecutor’s office to investigate into the incident, Roziqov said.
