DUSHANBE, August 28, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On Wednesday August 27, President Emomali Rahmon met with his Afghan counterpart, President Hamid Karzai, who arrived in Tajikistan to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a guest, according presidential press service.   

In the course of the talks, the two discussed issues related to implementation of joint projects and agreements reached by Tajikistan and Afghanistan.   

During the meeting, it was noted that joint projects for construction of automotive roads, railways and hydroelectric power plants are of significant importance for Central and South Asia.   

A special attention was paid to the SCO summit’s agenda, presidential press service said.    

Both sides underlined the importance of establishment of closer regional cooperation between the Persian-speaking countries – Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran.
