DUSHANBE, August 28, 2008, Asia-Plus — “The summit was fruitful and rich in content,” President Emomali Rahmon remake data press conference in Dushanbe on August 28, following a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The summit focused on security, economic and cultural cooperation among the member states. The summit participants exchange views on current major international and regional issues and discussed ways to promote the integrity of SCO member nations through free trade and facilitated investment.
The summit also summed up the results of work carried out over the past year, the Tajik president said. “”A considerable work has been carried out over the past year in all directions of interaction, whether it is cooperation in the field of security, trade and economy, or science and culture,” the Tajik leader said, noting that daily laborious task of SCO’s Secretariat, Anti-terrorist Structure and Business Council has allowed making progress in reaching set goals.
“The SCO leaders drew attention of the SCO bodies to the necessity of involving observer countries in discussing issues within the framework of the Organization,” said Rahmon, “This move will allow raising efficiency of our actions.”
According to him, the meeting participants also discussed global problems such as terrorism, extremism and drug aggression, energy and food crises.
President Rahmon noted that Tajikistan had offered establishment of the SCO counternarcotics department at the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) in Dushanbe.
