DUSHANBE, September 1, 2008, Asia-Plus — Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi has left for Moscow to attend a regular session of the council of foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) that will be held there on September 4.
The MFA information department head Davlat Nazriyev said that the CSTO foreign ministers are expected to consider issues related to coordination of foreign policy activities of member nations of the CSTO as well as the progress of implementation of resolutions adopted by the Minsk (2006) and the Dushanbe (2007) sessions.
“The plenary session will discuss an annual report by the CSTO General Secretary and a draft communiqué of the previous session of the Collective Security Council as well as draft regulations on working out, financing and implementing the CSTO interstate targeted programs,” the MFA spokesman said.
According to him, the Moscow session will also coordinate a number of documents, including a draft agreement on training of personnel for law enforcement agencies, firefighting, emergency services and special services of member nations of the Organization, a draft resolution of the Collective Security Council on additional measures to strengthen counternarcotics activities, and a draft program of joint actions for implementation of the UN global counterterrorist strategy for 2008-2012.
Nazriyev further added that it could not be ruled out that the session will also discuss the present situation in Caucasus after Georgia’s aggression against South Ossetia.
