KHUAJND, September 11, 2008, Asia-Plus — The number of intestinal disease cases, especially among children, has been increasing in northern Tajikistan, according to the Khujand center for sanitary-epidemiologic supervision.
The source at the Khujand center for sanitary-epidemiologic supervision said that 573 cases of acute intestinal infections have been reported in the Sughd province since the beginning of this year, which is 70 cases more than in the same period of last year.
Survey has shown that many children under the age of three have contracted various intestinal diseases over the report period. They have constituted some 50 percent of those having contracted the intestinal infections this year.
However, no case of measles, polio, or water-born and food infections has been reported in Khujand this year. Typhoid and malaria cases have not been reported in the city over the past three years, according to the source.
