Kulob farmers plant rice, maize and beans on freed areas

KULOB, September 17, 2008, Asia-Plus  — By September 17, farmers in Khatlon’s Kulob region have planted rice, grains, potatoes, maize and beans on the freed 16,003 hectares of areas, which is 2,000 hectares more than in the same period of last year, Abdullo Rajabov, lead specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

“Districts in the Kulob region have found additional funds to maximally increase production of farm produce,” said the lead specialist.  “8,992 hectares of the freed areas have been sown with grains, 2,121 hectares have been sown with beans, 1,554 hectares with rice, 1,617 hectares with vegetables and 62 hectares with potatoes.” 

Rajabov expressed hoped that these crops will cause prices to come down in the region.
