Construction may become important direction of Tajik-Polish cooperation, says Polish diplomat

Date:

DUSHANBE, September 20, Asia-Plus  — In a report released at a press conference in Dushanbe on September 19, Mr. Marek Piontek, Trade Adviser, Polish Embassy in Tajikistan, outlined construction as area of which could drive the bilateral economic cooperation between Poland and Tajikistan.

He noted that according to Polish statistical data, Poland’s exports to Tajikistan have increased 3.2 times and Poland’s imports from Tajikistan have risen 15.7 percent over the first six months of this year.

According to him, the range of export/import transactions between the two countries has been increasing and the Tajik-Polish joint venture TajPolTex operating in Tajikistan has increased the production volumes.

New and quite promising direction of cooperation between the two countries is the use of opportunities of Tajik construction companies for carrying out subcontract works in Poland.  “Since last year, a group of builders from the Sughd province has been working on construction sites of one of Poland’s largest construction companies JW Construction,” said the trade adviser, “According to the preliminary data alone, Poland is currently experiencing shortage of more than 500,000 builders; work in Poland could become a good school for Tajik builders in improving their professional skills, operating up-to-date construction machines and technologies and working with modern materials.”

As far as a two-way trade between the two countries is concerned, Mr. Piontek noted that deliveries of Polish building materials such as clay tiles, paint-and-lacquer materials, sanitary faience and others to Tajikistan have increased over the past several years.  “Capacity of Tajik market give us good opportunities for increasing volumes of building materials shipments to Tajikistan,” Polish diplomat said, noting that expansion of participation of Polish firms and companies in the construction exhibition TajikBuild is quite logical.

During the press conference, it was also noted that the upcoming Polish-Tajik political and economic consultations are supposed to discuss issues related to conclusion of a full-scale government-to-government agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.  This document will lay legal foundation of expansion of mutually beneficial economic cooperation between Poland and Tajikistan at the new level.
