DUSHANBE, September 23, 2008, Asia-Plus — National of Spain has been detained at the Dushanbe airport on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
Mahmadullo Asadulloyev, a spokesman for a MoI, said that officers from the transportation police department at the Dushanbe airport yesterday evening seized some three kilograms of heroin from the citizen of Spain Valery Gavreshchuk..
An inspection of passengers on the Dushanbe-Istanbul flight found some three kilograms of heroin in a suitcase belonging to Gavreshchuk.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted on drug trafficking charges and an investigation is under way.
