DUSHANBE, September 24, 2008, Asia-Plus — Today, President Emomali Rahmon will preside over the high-level event on the Water and Sanitary for All that is held in New York within the framework of the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Davlat Nazriyev, head of the MFA information department, before that, the Tajik head of state will meet with Mr. Riz Khan, who acts as moderator of the high-level event on the Water and Sanitary for All.
Today afternoon, President Rahmon is expected to hold talks with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
On September 25, Rahmon will deliver a statement at the general debates. The same day, the Tajik leader will attend the high-level event on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The high-level event will be a forum for world leaders to review progress, identify gaps, and commit to concrete efforts, resources and mechanisms to bridge the gaps.
On Thursday, Rahmon is also scheduled to meet his Finnish counterpart, President Tarja Halonen. In Thursday afternoon, President Rahmon will co-chair the roundtable meeting Ecological Stability.
On September 26, President Rahmon is scheduled to hold talks with a business group established by the Tajik-US Business Council as well as fellow-countrymen living in the United States. During his stay in New York, Rahmon is also expected to hold talks with South Korean Prime Minister and meet representatives of the US business structures.
In the meantime, leaders of Brazil, France, Georgia, Iran, Serbia and the United States delivered statements at the General Assembly’s high-level segment.
