American journalist to instruct Tajik colleagues in modern media trends

DUSHANBE, September 26, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Media development consultant from the United States, Mr. Drew Sulivan, will instruct Tajik journalists in modern media trends, including changes in new presentation format, according to the US Embassy in Dushanbe.  

The training seminar on the subject of “Modern Media: News on Evolution”, organized for Tajik journalists under support of the US diplomatic mission, will be conducted at Tajik Journalists’ Union in Dushanbe on October 10 and all persons interested may take part in the seminar.

Drew Sullivan is a freelance journalist and media development consultant based in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.  He is the former print media advisor for IREX ProMedia in Bosnia.  In that job, he helped promote a professional and sustainable media by improving journalism standards and newsroom efficiency, training managers and streamlining the news gathering and production processes. Before coming to IREX, Drew worked in Asia and Europe as a consultant for IREX, Internews, International Center for Journalism and the Center for War, Peace and the News Media.  

As a journalist, he served as city hall reporter and investigative reporter for the “Tennessean” newspaper in Nashville and as the news data editor and later manager for the Associated Press in New York.  He has served on the board of directors of Investigative Reporters and Editors and the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting (NICAR). He was one of NICAR’s founding employees and started their data library and analysis capabilities. He attended the masters program at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
