TOJIKOBOD, October 3, 2008, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmon is currently in the Tojikobod district.
He has already visited a number farming units here and in the village of Sari Pul he has hold meeting with local farmers, veterans of war and labor.
Besides, the head of state has given kick-start to the third phase of the Dushanbe-Jirgatol-Saritosh (Kyrgyz border) Road Rehabilitation Project, which includes rehabilitation of the Nimich-Qaramyk section of the road.
We will recall that on February 1, 2006, the Minister of Finance, Safarali Najmuddinov, inked the loan agreement for the Dushanbe – Kyrgyz-border Road Rehabilitation Project that was approved by Board of Directors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in November 2005.
Investment into this road project reduces Tajikistan’s isolation from the neighboring markets, and promotes development of export industries in the country, thereby contributing to poverty reduction and sustainable growth. The road is part of a network in Central Asia that directly links Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan. It is also part of a larger network providing links to the ocean ports of Iran and Pakistan to the south, and to the Russian Federation into the north. The road also serves as the only substantial link between Dushanbe and the Rasht Valley.
$50 million were provided for the first two phases of the project that were implemented in 28 months.
Today afternoon, President Rahmon is expected to visit the Jirgatol district and tomorrow, he will visit the Tavildara district.
