KHOROG, October 4, 2008, Asia-Plus — Shortage of school teachers in Gorno Badakhshan has considerably reduced due Khorog State University graduates.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Tojiddin Orumbekov, a chief specialist with the GBAO education directorate, said, “The Khorog University graduates are now coming to work with schools, while earlier, they did not want to work with schools because of low wages.”
By the end of academic year, there had been 575 teaching vacancies in the region while by October 1, this number has reduced to 255, Orumbekov said.
According to him, of 250 students who have graduated from the university this year, 175 have come to work with schools in the region.
“In the city of Khorog, the problem of providing schools with sufficient teachers has been solved completely,” the chief specialist said, noting that the most serious situation is currently in Darvoz district, which now has 84 teaching vacancies.
