KHUJAND, October 7, 2008, Asia-Plus — Since the beginning of this year, 42 residents of the northern Sughd province, including three women, have been detained in the CIS states for drug trafficking, first deputy Sughd regional prosecutor, Muzaffar Boqiyev, announced at a press conference in Khujand on October 7.
According to him, the majority of them have been detained in Russian Federation – 26 persons. Besides, three Sughd residents have been detained in Kazakhstan, ten in Uzbekistan, and three in Kyrgyzstan.
In all, 84 kilograms of heroin, 5 kilograms of raw opium and 50 grams of cannabis have been confiscated from them, the deputy prosecutor said.
In 2007, 70 residents of northern Tajikistan, including eleven women, were detained in the CIS states for drug-trafficking crimes.
