Dushanbe Russian theatre to participate in international theatre festival in Lvov

DUSHANBE, October 8, 2008 Asia-Plus  — Troupe of the Dushanbe Russian Drama Theatre named after Vladimir Mayakovsky will attend in an international theatre festival, Golden Lion, that will held in Lvov, Ukraine from October 11-20, Asia-Plus has learned from Suhrob Mirzoyev, the director of the Mayakovsky Theatre.  

According to him, the Dushanbe Russian theatre is the only theatre in Central Asia that was invited to participate in the festival.  “Theatres from 25 countries across the world, including Russia, Georgia, Poland, Belarus and others, are expected to participate in the festival,” Mirzoyev said, noting that a series of meetings with known stage managers, roundtable meetings and master-classes are supposed to be held on sidelines of the festival in Lvov.

He noted that their theatre will show performance “Five Wives of Khoja Nasreddin.”  “Uzbek director Olimjon Salimov has been invited to stage the performance,” the theatre director said.

He said that they had already shown that performance in the theatre festivals in Belarus (2007) and in St. Petersburg (2008).

The International Theatre Festival “Golden Lion” was established on the basis of Lviv Spiritual Theatre Voskresinnia, which was founded in 1990 by Yaroslav Fedoryshyn and a group of young actors from various Ukrainian cities as non-profit organization.  The festival is a member of the International European Theatre Meeting (IETM) and a member of International Festivals and Evens Association (IFEA).  Over years of its functioning, the Festival has been visited by more than 300 companies from 60 countries of the world.
