DUSHANBE, October 8, 2008, Asia-Plus — Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi is departing for Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan today to attend a session of the council of the CIS foreign ministers that will be held on October 9, according to the Tajik MFA.
The CIS foreign ministers’ session precedes the session of the council of the CIS heads of state that will be held in Bishkek on October 10.
The draft agenda for the session of the CIS ministerial council includes 26 issues concerning the cooperation of the CIS countries in humanitarian field, power engineering and security. In particular, the foreign ministers will discuss the CIS cooperation program on counteracting illegal migration for 2009-2011, the draft agreements on security and fight against terrorism. The sides will also discuss the draft resolution on announcement of 2009 as the Year of the Youth of the Commonwealth.
The foreign ministers of the CIS member states will also consider the draft documents concerning the implementation of the concept of the CIS further development and also the draft documents, which will be submitted to the CIS heads of state.
Zarifi is also supposed to hold a number of meetings with his ministerial counterparts from the CIS states.
The CIS heads of state are expected to discuss 19 issues. They include the draft strategy of the CIS economic development for the time period till 2020 and the CIS presidency. They will also decide whether the cooperation in the field of energy should become the priority area of cooperation in 2009. The CIS summit will also consider the concept of contacts in the information security area and its implementation for 2008-2010, the plan of the main measures for preparation of the celebrations to mark the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
