DUSHANBE, October 9, 2008, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has reached 90 percent of this year’s grain target, having harvested more than 405,000 tons of cereals, including some 360,000 tons of wheat, by October 9, according to press service of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
Over the same period of last year, Tajik farmers had harvested 298,500 tons of wheat.
The wheat yields have been reported of 1.87 tons per hectare; according to specialists, this year’s harvest is enough to meet 60%-70% percent of Tajikistan’s annual requirements in cereals, the press service said.
We will recall that this year, gains have been planted on an area of more than 292,000 hectares, including 220,389 hectares sown with wheat.
