Kyrgyzstan won’t face food crisis, Economy and Trade Minister says

Date:

Kyrgyz Minister of Economic Development and Trade Akylbek Japarov said during today’s Ak Jol fraction’s session in Parliament that Kyrgyzstan is unlikely to face food crisis.

In stead of 700,000 tons of wheat which were scheduled to collect, Kyrgyzstan managed to collect 800,000, which is enough to fill up state reserves, the minister noted.

The issue was raised during discussion of a draft law on amendments to a government’s resolution On “Import (export) seasonal customs fees for wheat, wheat and wheat-rye flour, vegetable oil and sunflower seeds,” as of May 20, 2008.  Amendments to the draft will allow a Korean company in Bishkek to export 2,500 tons of wheat without a customs fee (140 EUR per ton).
