Canada supports development of Konibodom’s agrarian sector

KONIBODOM, October 20, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On Saturday October 18, a meeting of partners on the Sughd Agrarian and Marketing Reform Promotion Project sponsored by international organization CECA (Canada) was held in the city of Konibodom, Sughd province.   

According to Ms. Musharraf Hasanova, chairperson of the public association Payvandi Shahrvandi, the project partners are joint-stock company Sughdagroservice and heads of local faming units. 

The meeting discussed issues related to further reforming the agrarian sector and strengthening cooperation with dehqan (peasant) farms.  

Speaking at the meeting, the deputy Sughdagroservice director, Maqsoud Buzrukov, noted that the organization activities include marketing (cotton purchase/sale and storage), financing of dehqan farms, microfinance at low annual interest, agricultural machine leasing, organization of wholesale-and-retail sale of spare parts, mineral fertilizers, pesticides, seeds of cotton, and high-quality grains and vegetables.  

He noted that Sughdagroservice has successfully cooperated with farming units in Zafarobod, Spitamen and Jabborrasulov districts since 2002.
