DUSHANBE, October 28, 2008, Asia-Plus — Speaking to reporters in Dushanbe in October 27, Economic Development and Trade Minister Ghulomjon Bobozoda said that specialists from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) are currently studying the current gasoline price situation in the country.
According to him, world oil prices nearly halved recently that would seem to be a favorable tendency for Tajikistan, which does not have its own oil, and lead to reduction of oil product prices in the country a decline. “However, gasoline prices have not come down and we have ordered our specialists to study the current gasoline price situation in the country to find out the reason for that,” the minister said.
Bobozoda noted that the problem had also been discussed with colleagues from the Russian Federation, which provides the bulk of Tajikistan’s fuel imports.
In the meantime, the price of one liter of 95-octane gasoline in Dushanbe is now 3.60 somoni, 92-octane gasoline – 3.40 somoni, and 76-octane gasoline – 3.20 somoni.
According to a MoEDT, Tajikistan now purchases gasoline and other oil products from Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Russia accounts for some 70 percent of Tajikistan’s fuel impost.
