DUSHANBE, October 29, 2008, Asia-Plus — Operation carried out by officers from the Interior Ministry department for combating drug trafficking (drug police) in Dushanbe yesterday led to the seizure of a large amount of heroin.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Mahmadullo Asadulloyev, a spokesman for the interior ministry, said that a 37-year-old resident of Dushanbe Rajabali Qurbonov had been detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking. 6.5 kilograms of heroin was confiscated from him.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Qurbonov under the provisions of Article 200 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code (trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances) and an investigation is under way, the spokesman said.
