DUSHANBE, November 29, 2008, Asia-Plus — Water supply system of some 35 percent of residential buildings in Dushanbe will be improved and they will be provided with safe drinking starting from the beginning of next year, Asia-plus has learned at the unit for implementation of the water supply project supported by Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
“Work on rehabilitation of three reservoirs will be completed in a month and some 35 percent of residential buildings in the northern part of Dushanbe will be provided with safe drinking water beginning on January 1, 2009,” a source at the project implementation unit (PIU) said, noting that the IDB had allocated more than 5 million US dollars for rehabilitation of the reservoirs and improvement of the Dushanbe water supply system.
The second phase of the IDP Dushanbe water supply improvement project will start at the beginning of next year and it includes rehabilitation of water pipes.
We will recall that speaking at a November 26 meeting reviewing investment projects implementation issues, President Rahmon urged to provide the Dushanbe residents with safe drinking water starting from January 1, 2009. During the meeting, it was noted that three water supply projects for a total amount of 170 million somoni have been implemented in the country. The projects are aimed at improving water supply in Dushanbe and Khatlon’s Hamadoni district.
