Tajik consulate takes situation with nonpayment of Tajik labor migrants’ wages under control

DUSHANBE, December 6, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s General Consulate in Yekaterinburg, Russia has taken the situation with nonpayment of wages of 120 Tajik labor migrants under its control, the MA information department head Davlat Nazriyev said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the consulate has hosted a meeting of representatives of labor migrants with representatives of Tajik MFA and Russia’s Federal Migration Service (FMS).  Representative of Tajik General Consulate Farrukh Sharipov and the head of the FMS directorate for the Sverdlovsk region Igor Syomochkin, in particular, participated at the meeting.

“The meeting was initiated by the FMS directorate for the purpose of solving the issue of debts of Russian limited liability company, Alpha-Stroy, to Tajik labor migrants,” Nazriyev said.

In the meantime, Russia’s UralPolit.Ru reported that Russian construction company, SKA, had decided to pay some two million Russian rubles to Tajik guest workers.  However, the company will refuse services of Alpha-Stroy that hired the Tajik guest workers in the future as it is dissatisfied with the quality of work carried out by contractor.  The money will be paid most likely on Monday.

According to UralPolit.Ru, the Sverdlovsk regional prosecutor Yuri Ponomaryov has taken the case under his control.  The Sverdlovsk prosecutor’s office is currently considering the issue of instituting criminal proceedings against the Alpha-Stroy director Viktor Sagaydak.

We will recall that some 200 Tajik builders began the strike in late November to demand overdue salaries for the last three months.
