KHOROG, December 19, 2008, Asia-Plus — This year, farmers in Gorno Badakhshan have produced some 12,000 tons grains (850 tons more than in 2007), 29,000 tons of potatoes (2,600 tons more), some 8,000 tons of vegetables (600 tons more), 221 tons of watermelons, melons and gourds (70 tons more) and 3,500 tons of fruits (160 tons more), Imomdod Farhodov, the deputy head of the GABO agriculture directorate, told Asia-Plus today.
According to him, the harvest volumes have increased due to extension of areas under crops and good yields.
Compared to 2008, average crop yields have increased this year by 0.2 to 1.0 ton per hectare, Farhodov noted.
