Georgian Prime Minister Nikoloz Gilauri, who arrived in Ashgabat at the head of a delegation to attend an international energy conference under the auspices of UN, met with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on 22 April. He said Georgia attaches particular importance to establishing cooperation with Turkmenistan demonstrating impressive economic growth and progress.

The guest conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili to the president of Turkmenistan, and also an invitation to visit Georgia at any convenient time.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of inter-state cooperation, and singled out the fuel and energy, transport and communications, industry and tourism as priority areas of such partnership. Having supported the idea to speed up trade-economic relations between the two countries, the sides noted the importance of expanding contacts in the humanitarian sphere, including education, science and culture.
