DUSHANBE, May 13, 2009, Asia-Plus — Speaking at the meeting of heads of the ministries of the economic bloc with representatives of the donor community in Dushanbe, Economic Development and Trade Minister Ghulomjon Bobozoda noted on May 13 that Tajikistan needs support of the donor community in order to ensure an efficient implementation of reforms and social expense items.
The minister noted that the plan of actions to address effects of the global financial crisis consisted of six components, including provision of sustainability of the real sector of economy, creation of new jobs and support to the labor market, ensuring social protection of the population, creation of favorable conditions for attraction of investments and ensuring an opportune implementation of the anticrisis measures designed fro short-term period.
Bobozoda, in particular, noted that the macroeconomic prognosis for 2009 had been prepared without taking into account the crisis occurrences, and therefore, it was necessary to review the short-term forecast.
“Development of economic processes in late 2008 and early 2009 radically differs from development of those in the previous years,” said the minister, “The 2009 budget’s parameters were reviewed, remittances have decreased by 30 percent over the first quarter of this year, Tajikistan has seen its export revenues weakened and deterioration of situation in the external sector is also characterized by actual rise in the exchange rate of the national currency against currencies of our main trading partners.”
