DUSHANBE, June 9, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon is continuing working visit to the southern Khatlon province.
We will recall that the Khuroson district was the first leg of Rahmon’s working trip to Khatlon. In the Khuroson district, the president visited the Ayni jamoat, which had been hit the most by recent heavy rains and resulting mudslides.
In April, 17 dwellings were completely destroyed by mud and 34 others were partially damaged. In May, torrential rain and mudslides affected 153 houses in the Khuroson district; 88 of them were completely destroyed and 62 residential buildings were damage partially.
During his stay in the Khuroson district, Rahmon met with disaster victims and got acquainted with the pace of work on removing the disaster effects and constructing new houses for disaster-hit people.
The working visit to Khatlon province has also taken President Rahmon to Bokhtar and Rumi districts.
In the Bokhtar district, the president visited the village of Ghayrat in the Zargar jamoat. As of June 1, 2009, local farmers have produced 844 tons of tomatoes, 1,271 tons of cucumbers, 36 tons of cauliflowers and 38 tons of cabbages, according to presidential press service.
The village of Ghayrat has 176 greenhouses with the overall space of 11 hectares. 451 local residents currently work with the greenhouses that take out some 10-15 tons of vegetables for sale per day.
In the Rumi district, Emomali Rahmon participated in an opening ceremony of a new three-story consumer services center in the Isoyev settlement. The center has created some 1,000 new jobs, presidential press service said. Construction of the center was funded by local entrepreneur Saymukhriddin Saidov. The president also inaugurated a new sports center and cotton-ginning factory in the Isoyev settlement. He pointed to the necessity of constructing spinning and weaving workshops with an annual capacity of 3,000 tons in the settlement.
Tomorrow, President Emomali Rahmon is scheduled to hold meeting with Khatlon regional administrators in Qurghon Teppa. The meeting is expected to review the region’s economic results in January-May this year.
