KULOB, August 12, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Kulob-based non-governmental organization, Najoti Kudakon (Save the Children), is making preparations for its 15th anniversary, which will be marked on August 25.
“The NGO was established in 1994 by a group of local widows, whose husbands died during the country’s disastrous civil war in the 1990s,” the Najoti Kudakon chairperson, Ms. Qurbonqul Qosimova, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to her, the main mission of Najoti Kudakon is in promoting involvement of the poorest sections of the population in settling problems facing them.
“Over the past 15 years, thousands of local women, youth and children have been involved in the education process, an active public life, as well as various information campaigns, roundtable meetings and conferences,” said Ms. Qosimova. “We have consultants to make available medical and psychological aid to women victims of violence as well as psychological-pedagogical aid to disabled children and children that became victims of domestic violence.”
