Japan assists school rehabilitation project in Jilikul district

Date:

DUSHANBE, September 1, 2009, Asia-Plus  — “The Project for the Rehabilitation of the Secondary School No.1 in Jilikul District” under the Grant Assistance of Grass-roots Human Security Project of the Government of Japan for the total amount of US$ 85,636 has been successfully implemented, according to the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe.

Yesterday, Mr. Shunsuke Kondo, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan and Mr. Mahmadrahim Ismoilov, Acting Chairman of Jilikul District, attended the handover ceremony for the school rehabilitation project.

School No.1, one of the biggest schools in the district, had remained without rehabilitation since the school’s establishment in 1975. The parents and teachers have strongly assisted the school management, but poor condition of the school such as water leaking and serious damage of floor in the building hampered children from studying in appropriate environment.

Through the project which repaired the old school building and gymnasium, 660 school children will be ensured to have quality education with safe and hygiene environment.

To make sure that children have access to quality education is powerful way to promote sustainable development for both of individual and the society. Improved school infrastructure through this project will enhance academic environment of children, who will be the pillar in the future of Tajikistan.

The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects is provided mainly to local governments, NGOs, and educational and medical institutions in developing countries.  This grant aid instrument provides support to projects in Human Security sectors at the grassroots level, and it has extended the total of US$ 13,689,128 grant for 215 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
