Uzbekistan lifts travel restrictions on border with Tajikistan

Date:

DUSHANBE, September 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Since the end of last week, the Uzbek Embassy in Dushanbe, has been issuing visas to Tajik nationals without limitation.

The source at the Uzbek Embassy in Dushanbe said that travel restrictions imposed by Uzbekistan on its border with Tajikistan on August 14 this year in connection with detection of cases of hemorrhagic fever in Tajikistan’s Tursunzoda district bordering Uzbekistan had been lifted.

We will recall that temporary restriction was imposed on issuing visas to tourists, persons visiting holy places in Uzbekistan and businessmen.  However, the embassy was continuing to issue transit visas as well as visas to immediate relatives for participation in funerals in Uzbekistan as well as to persons going to Uzbekistan for business trips.

The Main Directorate of Border Troops within the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan has confirmed the information about lifting travel restrictions.
