DUSHANBE, September 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — A session of the coordination council of heads of competent bodies of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for combating illegal migration will be held in Moscow on October 2, according to the CSTO Secretariat.
The session is aiming to discuss the practice of interaction between the CSTO competent bodies and international organizations, measures taken to improve national migrations laws for the purpose of raising efficiency of the fight against illegal migration as well as methodological works carried out in this sphere.
The meeting participants will also consider the draft agreement on creation of a system of exchange of information in the filed of illegal migration within the CSTO area and exchange views on the work on introducing new passport and visa documents into operation.
Moscow hosted the first session of the coordination council of heads of the competent bodies of the CSTO for combating illegal migration on January 23, 2008. Director of the Russian Federal Migration Service (FMS) Konstantin Romodanovsky was elected chairman of the coordination council.
The coordination council was founded on October 6, 2007 in line with the relevant resolution of the CSTO Collective Security Council. Its main goal is to provide assistance in holding coordinated operational actions and special operations aimed at counteracting illegal migration, to ensure cooperation between the competent bodies in order to enhance efficiency of the fight against illegal migration, to put forward proposals relating to joint practical measures aimed at combating illegal migration.
