DUSHANBE, September 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — Organized by the Dushanbe-based public association The Gender Education Center, a roundtable meeting to discuss issues related to judicial protection of property and rights of women in divorce and family law cases was held in Dushanbe on September 25.
Speaking at the meeting, the Gender Education Center chairperson, Ms. Sofiya Qosimova noted that 60 women have managed to uphold their rights in courts this year with support from the Center.
According to her, the project, Judicial Protection of Property and Rights of Women in Marriage and Family Cases, has been implemented under support of the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe. She noted that several public associations and governmental organizations had been involved in implementation of the project.
“We have helped women protect their rights in suits against former husbands, who were beating and humiliating them,” said Qosimova, “Former husbands left them with nothing while divorcing. We have provided assistance to them with drawing up judicial recourses and supported them during suits.”
