DUSHANBE, September 28, 2009, Asia-Plus — A roundtable meeting to discuss issues related to protection of rights of energy consumers will be held in Dushanbe on September 29.
Organized by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) and Consumers’ Union of Tajikistan, the meeting is expected to bring together representatives of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), president’s office, the ministry of energy and industries, Barqi Tojik power holding, Tojiktransgaz (Tajik state natural-gas distributor) as well as a number of relevant international organizations active in the country.
According to Consumers’ Union of Tajikistan, the main objective of the meeting is in organizing exchange of experience in the field of protection of rights of energy consumers within the CIS area under the agreement on priorities of cooperation between the CIS member nations in the field of protection of consumers’ rights that was signed in 2000.
Representatives from the CIS Interstate Council for Antimonopoly Policy, the World Consumer Protection Organization and the International Confederation of Consumer’s Unions will share their experiences in this sphere with the meeting participants, the source said.
