DUSHANBE, October 5, 2009, Asia-Plus — On Sunday October 4, President Emomali Rahmon received a group of high guests from Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, Iraq, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), European countries and the Unite States that had arrived in Tajikistan to attend an international conference dedicated to the 1310th birth anniversary of Imam, according to presidential press service.
The meeting with the Afghan delegation, led by ex-President of this country also chairman of the upper house of Afghanistan’s parliament Sibghatullah Mojaddedi, focused on cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the fields of transport, communications and transport.
Issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran in the fields of culture and religion were a major topic of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Sheikh Mohammad Ishaq Madani, Iran President’s Adviser on Sunni Affairs.
Russian delegation led, by Dr. Vitaly Naumkin, Director of the Center for Arab Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, consists of 20 persons. The delegation head Dr. Naumkin expressed gratitude to President Rahmon for an initiative to organize the conference.
Representatives of delegations of India, Pakistan, Ukraine and other countries also expressed their opinions on the significance of this international conference, the press service said.
