SDPT supports Communists’ proposal to celebrate 80th anniversary of founding of Tajik ASSR

Date:

DUSHANBE, October 6, 2009, Asia-Plus — Proposal of representatives from the Communist Party (CPT) to hold events to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic (Tajik SSR) is quite logical and founded, Shokirjon Hakimov, the deputy head of the Social-democratic Party (SDPT), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the creation of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic in 1929 as one of republics that made up the Soviet Union is of historic importance for the Tajik people.  “Despite shortcomings in the public management principles and unfair territorial division that was regulated by Moscow, we, the Tajiks, that time had got our statehood after thousands years, and this event should be appreciated at its true value,” Hakimov said.

He noted that that the country should mark that date in an appropriate manner, because the Republic of Tajikistan is legal successor of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic.

We will recall that the CPT organization in Khatlon’s Kulob zone suggested in late September this year that the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Tajik SSR should be marked this year.  Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the head of the CPT’s organization in Kulob Sharif Safarov said, “Why the country marks various holidays even such as pumpkin festival at the highest level while no mention has been made so far about such a historic date as the 80th anniversary of the creation of Tajik SSR.”

The Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic, also known as the Tajik SSR for short, was one of the 15 republics that made up the Soviet Union.  Tajik SSR was created on December 5, 1929 as a national entity for the Tajik people within the Soviet Union.  It succeeded the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist republic (Tajik ASSR), which had been created on October 14 1924 as part of the predominantly Turkic Uzbek SSR in the process of national delimitation in Soviet Central Asia.  On September 9, 1991, Tajik SSR declared independence from the Soviet Union and was renamed the Republic of Tajikistan..
