DUSHANBE, October 7, Asia-Plus — The 21st session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) that was held last week seconded the law on amendments to the country’s law on the state symbols of Tajikistan.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Nazarali Rahamtulloyev, an official with Tajik traffic police, said that the national flag of Tajikistan would be displayed on the new number plates and they would have several effective levels of protection against counterfeiting.
“It is already the third replacement of the number plates in the country over the past eighteen years,” said Rahamatulloyev, “The measure is aimed at bringing the country’s number plates into compliance with international norms and standards.”
The traffic police official noted that replacement of the old number plates with the new ones would not be a compulsory measure. “I think there ought not to make a sensation round the replacement of the number plates. The number plate replacements will not be limited by time and motorists may replace the number plates whenever they want and no limitations are introduced on the old number plates.”
According to him, a tender for production of the new number plates and the price for the new number plates will be set. Current price for the number plates is 12.10 U.S. dollars. Rahamtulloyev added that persons wanting to have a special number plate (mirror, “silver” or “gold”) might do that through an auction.
According to data of the Tajik traffic police, more than 30,000 cars have been registered in Tajikistan to this date.
